On Friday, I had a lot of fun on Twitter with the #ILikeObamacare hashtag initiated by Team Obama to celebrate the second anniversary of the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare). As predicted, conservatives took over the thread, offering sarcastic reasons for why they liked Obamacare.
Here are some tweets that I sent out, just to give you a feeling for the game:

One of my favorite tweets I saw was from my friend Jon Gabriel, who said, “#ILikeObamacare because a guy who can’t even protect a Twitter hashtag thread should be great at protecting my health.”
Then I got caught up in life getting ready for Thing 2’s birthday on Saturday, driving Thing 1 to and from a birthday party, and hosting an impromptu dinner party, because hey, why not?
Way too much fun was had at dinner Friday night, so I woke up with a fairly wicked hangover on Saturday morning. Whoops. All of my energy went into making Thing 2’s morning at the farmer’s market special, wrapping presents, and generally showering her with birthday love.
I finally hopped on Twitter yesterday evening to see what was going on, and I noticed a new hashtag flying by: #Gen44. So I asked my followers what the deal was, and they said it was the latest fail from Team Obama. I forced myself over to www.BarackObama.com, where I learned that Gen44 is the under-40 demographic.
So what’s the deal with the 44?
Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States. I felt slightly nauseated. So I tweeted, “I threw up in my mouth a little upon discovering that Obama has named my generation after himself. #gen44”
Seriously, you guys, this is not cool. This dude is so egotistical and out of touch with reality that it’s kinda scary. Obama wants us under-40s to volunteer our time, efforts, and cash to “ensure that President Obama and Democrats have the resources and infrastructure needed to implement the change we believe in.”
A movement shouldn’t be about a leader; it should focus on a cause. How do we know what President Obama really feels or wants for our country? He is always saying one thing and doing another. No one knows where he stands on anything. Why would an entire generation place their faith and trust in one man, and even refer to themselves by his moniker?
What does the president mean when he says we need to ensure that he has the resources needed to bring about change? What kind of change? What happened to compromise, and all that across-the-aisle stuff they’re always touting? Is Obama saying that Gen44 needs to rally together to obliterate the Republicans? That sounds a bit totalitarian, if you ask me.
I am not comfortable handing over resources to one person so that they can ‘change things’ and ‘take care of me.’ I’d rather my president step back, rein in the government from interfering with my life and finances, and trust me to make the best decisions for myself and my family.
I am not Gen44. I am Generation Independent.
I wrote some stuff that I didn’t write here. You should take a gander, or at least click on the links, because let’s face it, I have no way of knowing what you’re doing over there on your side of the computer. And that might be a good thing.
Anyway.
President Obama unveils his plan to create jobs. It goes something like this: “Because I said so!” Yeah, that’ll work.

The food police almost ruined my daughter’s birthday dinner. Thankfully, Daddy shared extra fries with the birthday girl.

So this is late. I try to post these weekly round-ups on Sunday or Monday, depending on how my weekend goes, and it is now Wednesday night. So late on Wednesday night, in fact, that’s it’s actually Thursday morning on the East coast. What can I say? It’s summertime, which in Mom World is crazytime. The kids are home all day long. They are hungry all day long. They are bored all day long. Actually, kids in my house are never bored, or at least they never voice it, because if they do, they find themselves staring at toilet with a scrub brush in their hand. Nothing cures boredom quite like scrubbing a toilet!
And that’s the kind of mom I am. Interestingly, I just got off the phone with a single girlfriend, with whom I shared a story from the beach today. One of my kiddos was carelessly kicking sand on people, and needed to be corrected. “See?” She said, “This is why I can never have kids. I’d probably kick sand on them and ask, ‘How does that feel?’”
“Um … what do you think I did?”
And that’s the kind of mom I am. The kind of mom whose kids don’t carelessly kick sand on other people.
Anyway, I wrote some stuff last week! And you should totally click on it and maybe even read it. Otherwise you might find yourself staring a toilet with a scrub brush in your hand.
President Obama gave a little speech about the debt limit. It was riddled with blatant untruths. I narrowed down the top nine.
Speaking of President Obama, do you know that he signed a bill that authorized $50 million of your hard-earned money to put guns in the hands of dangerous Mexican drug lords? Because he totally did. Oh, and Attorney General Eric Holder lied about it.
I also mocked global warming scare tactics and possibly polar bears. Because polar bears would totally eat me, given the chance.

I wrote about the zombie protestors at the Special Olympics event that Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was speaking at. No wonder public support for unions is plummeting. Imbeciles.
Did you hear about Sarah Palin’s emails being released?? OMG, they were going to be so deliciously scandalous! Except the weren’t. They were pretty ordinary, actually. What is the media’s obsession with taking down Palin? It’s annoying.
ATMs killed the radio star economy. So says Barack Obama. In other news, indoor plumbing killed the chamber pot industry.
I wrote this article on middle school kids and sextionnaires on a plane. Air travel has nothing to do with the article. It just makes me sound fancy, so I thought I’d point it out.

Last year, our constitutional republic failed to pass the DISCLOSE Act, which would have required large donors to disclose their giving topolitical organizations, and prohibited federal contractors from donating to political causes. Apparently, some people still like their privacy and freedom of choice, and our Democrat-controlled Congress respected that.
Kudos.
But now, the Obama Administration has drafted an executive order that would allow the government to examine the political contributions of companies applying for federal contracts. In other words, “the will of the people must be overcome!”
The proposed executive order claims that “every stage of the contracting process … be free from the undue influence of factors extraneous to the underlying merits of contracting decision making, such as political activity or political favoritism.”
Wonderful! I completely agree with that. What I disagree with is the fashion in which this order demands freedom from outside influences. This order would allow the government to examine all political donations made by officers and directors of companies applying for federal contracts.

When I was little, my mama always taught me that actions speak louder than words. Co-opting a phrase from the most widely owned and read book in the world, she told me that I would be able to discern a tree by the fruit it bore.
In other words, talk is cheap.
I’ve been reminded of this so often over the past couple of years while watching the Obama administration. Barack Obama claimed to be forbetter education, and then he ended the DC voucher program. He said he wouldn’t hire lobbyists, and then he hired lobbyists. He said he wanted make sure every American had health insurance, then he gavewaivers to businesses so they wouldn’t have to provide health insurance for their employees. Anyone else notice a trend?
The latest round of hypocrisy has to do with energy. In 2008, then-Senator Obama vowed to implement a cap and trade law that would limit carbon emissions and ‘necessarily skyrocket’ energy costs. Unable to pass cap & tax through congress, President Obama has decided to do whatever he wants anyway by expanding EPA regulation. Since I’m remembering phrases from my childhood, ‘more than one way to skin a cat’ comes to mind.
For the first time, the Environmental Protection Agency will regulate greenhouse gases from power plants and other major polluters — which will stifle growth, kill jobs, and raise the cost of electricity. But if you’re lucky, a polar bear will come hug you. Polar bear hugs are far superior to being able to turn on your heat in the middle of a snowpocalypse.

Chinese President Hu Jintao visited the White House last week. He probably wanted to inspect the country to make sure we’ll be able to pay back the $900 billion or so that we owe China.
On January 19, there was a big fancy-schmancy dinner to honor the visiting delegates. As part of the entertainment, Chinese pianist Lang Lang played anti-American propaganda song.
Let me repeat that: As part of the entertainment at a White House state dinner to honor the President of China, a well known, anti-American song was played.
At the White House State dinner on Jan. 19, about six minutes into his set, Lang Lang began tapping out a famous anti-American propaganda melody from the Korean War: the theme song to the movie “Battle on Shangganling Mountain.”
The movie and the tune are widely known among Chinese, and the song has been a leading piece of anti-American propaganda by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for decades. CCP propaganda has always referred to the Korean War as the “movement to resist America and help [North] Korea.” The message of the propaganda is that the United States is an enemy—in fighting in the Korean War the United States’ real goal was said to be to invade and conquer China.
The rest of the world is laughing in our faces and all our president can do is bow to them.
Transparency in politics is good. We the people elect representatives to act in our best interest, and send them off to Washington where we hope they won’t let us down.
There are few things more frustrating than watching unpopular bills being passed into law through backroom deals and partisan meetings. When the health care bill was being rammed through Congress, politicians actually laughed at the notion that they might read it, and Nancy Pelosiherself said we had to pass it to find out what was in it.
We still don’t know what’s in the new health care law, since the rules keep changing.
Americans were told that bailouts were needed to save businesses too large to fail. Billions of dollars have been spent to save jobs and put America back to work. What was in those stimulus projects? Crack monkeys and menopausal yoga and skylights for wine cellars.
Let’s not forget about the auto bailouts, the takeover of the student loan industry, or the whole housing mess.
Little by little, our liberal, humanitarian government has been spending us into poverty in the name of the common good. The silent majority has been awoken and is stirring, getting ready to vote out liberty’s enemies in November.
What is a spendaholic control freak like President Obama supposed to do in the face of steadily declining approval ratings? A certain scene from The Wizard of Oz comes to mind, in which a little man implores his visitors not to peek behind the curtain.
The DNC released an ad Monday accusing Republicans of using shady tactics and dirty money to get elected. The ad says:
Karl Rove, Ed Gillespie: They’re Bush cronies. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce: They’re shills for big business. And they’re stealing our democracy. Spending millions from secret donors to elect Republicans to do their bidding in Congress. It appears they’ve even taken secret foreign money to influence our elections. It’s incredible: Republicans benefiting from secret foreign money. Tell the Bush crowd and the Chamber of Commerce: Stop stealing our democracy.
This ad comes immediately after attacks from the President himself. Last Thursday, Obama referred to the Chamber of Commerce buying ads against Democrats with foreign money. On Monday, he smeared Karl Rove twice by name at an Illinois rally for Democratic Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias.
Do the allegations hold any water? No. Not even The New York Times can agree with the President on this one. The highly liberal paper states:
But a closer examination shows that there is little evidence that what the chamber does in collecting overseas dues is improper or even unusual, according to both liberal and conservative election-law lawyers and campaign finance documents.
The notion that it’s Republicans stealing our democracy instead of Leftists like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi is laughable at best. It wasn’t the right pushing bailouts and corporate takeovers and socialized health care.
Besides, President Obama and the DNC should be very careful what they wish for. I seem to remember a certain presidential candidate refusing to disclose where all of his campaign contributionsoriginated. Maybe Democrats should get the log out of their own eye before they go looking for splinters in Karl Rove’s eye.
