Obamacare Waivers for All the President’s Friends

Another week, another round of Obamacare waivers. One has to wonder at this point if the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act applies to anyone anymore. It certainly doesn’t seem to apply to friends of President Obama.

They’re all getting waivers.

The Obama administration granted 204 new waivers nationwide in April, and almost 20 percent of them went to fancy restaurants and hotels in San Francisco. It’s probably a coincidence that San Francisco is former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s district. Ms. Pelosi, along with her Senatorial counterpart Harry Reid, was one of the biggest pushers of Obamacare when the president was trying to get it passed.

The other 80 percent of the waivers went to the usual recipients:labor unions, large corporations, financial firms, and local governments. How nice it must be to be in bed with big government. Sarah Palin had a succinct response to the Pelosi waiver revelation:

“Unflippingbelievable! No, wait, it is believable,” Palin said in an email to TheDC (The Daily Caller). “Seriously, this is corrupt. And anyone who still supports the Pelosi-Reid-Obama agenda of centralized government takeovers of the free market and the corresponding crony capitalism is, in my book, complicit.”

Seniors Will Starve and Fairies Will Die on Republican Budget

Unless the politicians in Washington can come up with a budgetfor the fiscal year we’re currently halfway through, the government will shut down all non-essential services. The funding dries up Friday at midnight, which means that some 800,000 federal workers will be furloughed and also that Yellowstone Park will close temporarily.

The problem with creating a budget is that Republicans andDemocrats can’t agree on how much money to spend and what items to spend it on. There are just so many ways to spend other people’s money that sometimes it’s hard to decide whether to fundmenopausal yoga classes or blatantly biased media outlets.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi pointed out the key difference between the ideologies of the right and the left: Liberals care about their fellow citizens, and Conservatives don’t give a crap about starving seniors. OK, maybe I paraphrased a teensy bit. Here’s what she actually said:

In one of the bills before us, six million seniors are deprived of meals — homebound seniors are deprived of meals. People ask us to find our common ground, the middle ground. Is middle ground three million seniors not receiving meals? I don’t think so. We’ve got to take this conversation from a debate about numbers and dollar figures and finding middle ground there, to the higher ground of national values. I don’t think the American people want any one of those six million people to lose their meals.

Democratic Appeasement in the Fight to Extend the Bush Tax Cuts

With only three weeks left until the Bush tax cuts are set to expire,Congress is scrambling to save taxpayers from the largest tax increasein history. There have been several proposals tossed around on the Senate and House floors, including extending the cuts only for those families making under $250,000 or individuals making under $200,000 per year.

It appears as though Bush’s tax cuts benefited the non-wealthy after all. Even Obama had to admit that the average American family profited from Bush’s tax policies:

Make no mistake: Allowing taxes to go up on all Americans would have raised taxes by $3,000 for the typical American family. And that could cost our economy well over a million jobs.

Last Saturday, the House passed a bill that would increase taxes on “wealthy” Americans only, but five Democrats in the Senate joined with the Republicans to kill it. Our politicians had to go back to the drawing board.

The current deal that has yet to be voted on is Obama’s compromise with Republicans. If passed, Bush’s across-the-board tax cuts will be extended for two years (with the exception of the inheritance tax, which will go from 0% to 35%), and the payroll tax would be cut by 2%, benefiting every working American. In exchange for the concession, federal unemployment insurance would be renewed for 13 months.

Nancy Pelosi Asked to Step Down: Democrats Still Don’t Get It

Nancy Pelosi managed to keep her seat representing San Francisco in the House of Representatives against challenger John Dennis in last week’s elections, but the Democrats’ new minority status in the same chamber has ousted her from her position as Speaker of the House. The Speaker is the top job in the House, and despite what Joe Biden says, is second in line for the Presidency.

After the election, Ms. Pelosi made clear her intention to retain her top dog status in the Democratic Party by seeking the post of House Minority Leader. John Boehner, who is now the supposed Speaker-elect (although nothing is carved in stone yet), currently fills the seat.

It turns out that Democrats in the House aren’t too keen on keeping Nancy Pelosi in a leadership position. They have drafted a letter to the soon-to-be-former Speaker, imploring her to step down.

The letter talks a great deal about Republican demonization of their great leader. Of course they love her — it’s just that those evil Republicans have “taken away [her] ability to lead.” The Democrats fear that the Republicans will continue to target Nancy Pelosi as the face of all that is wrong in Washington, and they respectfully ask her to step down.

The letter states:

This is a difficult letter to write, because we admire your commitment, your drive, and your conviction. You have been an historic figure in our great nation, and for that we are all proud, as should you be. Nonetheless, we each experienced how Republican demonization of you and your leadership contributed to our defeat.

The Republicans have demonized Nancy Pelosi? Hardly. She’s earned her 33% approval rating all on her own.

She has led the charge to pass billions and billions and billions of dollars in spending we can’t afford, so that twenty-somethings will be able to study art rather than grow up and get a job.

Nancy Pelosi pushed for the health care law, which Americans didn’t want, and has since been shown to discriminate against women, give breaks to big business, and drop coverage for children.

It was Nancy Pelosi, not Republicans that rammed through an $819 billion stimulus package that included funding for menopausal women to take yoga classes. Let’s also not forget about the stimulus-funded crack monkeys.

Nancy Pelosi was the one that accused the CIA of lying to her about interrogation techniques. She called opponents of anti-abortion health care un-American. She was the one that said bills could be bipartisan without bipartisan votes.

Nancy Pelosi might be the face of everything in Washington that’s wrong and corrupt and out-of-touch with Americans. But Republicans didn’t demonize her into that position. She got there all on her own.

Maybe the Democrats should stop blaming Republicans and own up to the fact that they made a mistake in making Nancy Pelosi their leader. They have no one to blame but themselves, and the fact that they blame Republicans is exactly why so many of them were voted out. Get a clue, Democrats, unless you want to see your numbers go down again in 2012.

Unemployment Checks are Good for The Economy! Who Knew?

Nancy Pelosi asserts that unemployment benefits are great for the economy. “It creates jobs faster than almost any other initiative you can name,” she says.

In other news:

  • Candy bars are good for weight loss
  • Never saying no to your children makes them well-behaved
  • The best way to help an addict is to enable him or her

Good or bad, stimulating or not, how in the world does welfare help the economy? Make no mistake, unemployment checks are welfare. It’s money that you get for not working. I have friends that refer to their unemployment as a paid vacation, and are annoyed when they actually have to go find a job when their benefits run out.

How does requiring employers to pay former employees for NOT WORKING free up more cash for them to hire new people? Someone please explain this to me.

Anti-Incumbent? No, Just Anti-Pelosi

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday acknowledged the “anti-incumbent mood” that’s swept through U.S. politics.

“There’s no question there is, at this moment, an anti-incumbent mood,” the Speaker said at her weekly press conference.

That’s quite a rationalization, Ms. Pelosi. Let me set you straight, because you obviously haven’t been listening to a single word that Americans have been saying.

We are not anti-incumbent. We like Coburn, Thune, DeMint, Bachmann, Smith, and many others, and want them to continue representing us in D.C.

What we don’t like is the attitude that you know better than us. We don’t like you sticking your bony fingers into our pockets so that you may be perceived as generous. We don’t like you robbing our children so that you and your cronies can live the life of Riley while telling us that we’re the greedy selfish ones. We don’t like you voting for legislation that stifles growth and suffocates business.

In other words, Ms. Pelosi, we don’t like you. Now if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll go contribute a few bucks to John Dennis, because you’re one incumbent that we’d like to see gone.

April Fool’s Day

I seriously think the media is punking us. Here are some of today’s news stories:

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) is worried that the tiny island nation of Guam is going to tip over into the sea if the population becomes too dense.

In a discussion regarding a planned military buildup on the Pacific island, Johnson expressed some concerns about the plans to Adm. Robert Willard, head of the U.S. Pacific fleet.

“My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize,” Johnson said. Willard paused and replied, “We don’t anticipate that.”

The President of the United States is selling t-shirts, which is sort of weird on it’s own, but I could totally see if it were to raise money for Haiti or something. The money’s not going to Haiti though. It’s going to Barack Obama. Oh yeah, the shirts say “BFD” in big bold letters. Yup. Ladies and gents, the leaders of the free world are selling t-shirts that glamorize swearing. To me, that’s a Big F***ing Deal.

Meredith Vierra tried to stretch a story so far that I think she may have pulled a hamstring. On today’s Today show, she asked Senator Jim DeMint if he would condemn the atrocious language of the tea partiers that want to burn Nancy Pelosi at the stake. Huh? Ok, here’s the thinking. Someone at a tea party waved a broom at Ms. Pelosi and said, “Sweep the bums out of Washington!” So obviously he’s calling Nancy Pelosi a witch. And witches must be burned at the stake.

A woman got evicted from her apartment over some peeps.

The Enron scandal has been made into a Broadway musical.

Ronald McDonald has been called upon to retire, because “he is no friend to our children our their health.”

I don’t know about you, but I keep hoping to see Ashton Kutcher. Because if all the above stories are accurate, then we’ve got bigger problems than being punked.

Weird and Wacky Week in Washington

Last weekend Rep. Eric Massa (D-NY) stated his intention to resign his post amid allegations that he sexually harassed a male co-worker.  But then he said this:

“Mine is now the deciding vote on the health care bill,And this administration and this House leadership have said, quote-unquote, they will stop at nothing to pass this health care bill. And now they’ve gotten rid of me, and it will pass. You connect the dots.”

Hmmm… I wouldn’t put it past the Democrats to do that, but this story is already a little bit fishy.  His story keeps changing.  He already hadn’t been planning to run for another term due to recurring cancer.  But then it was due to his “salty language.”  But then it was because he was going to be a no vote on the current health care bill.

Fishy, right?

But wait!  There’s more!

Massa made some pretty interesting remarks about the President’s Chief of Staff:

“Rahm Emanuel is son of the devil’s spawn… He is an individual who would sell his mother to get a vote. He would strap his children to the front end of a steam locomotive.”

Rep. Massa describes a confrontation with Emanuel in a shower: “I am showering, naked as a jaybird, and here comes Rahm Emanuel, not even with a towel wrapped around his tush, poking his finger in my chest, yelling at me.”

That’s probably true about Rahm, actually.  But this whole situation is wack-a-delic.  Michelle Malkin and Glenn Beck even got into a scuttle about it on his radio program.  She didn’t think we should be giving Massa any air time, and chided Beck for inviting him onto his show on the Fox News Network.  They have since then made up and sent each other virtual hugs and kisses.

And in why-am-I-not-surprised news- it turns out that Nancy Pelosi had known for months about Massa’s inappropriate behavior which included touching and groping of male staff members.  One might hope that the leader of the House could keep her own house in order, but apparently not.

In a related story about coo-coo-crazy-pants liberals in the House, Patrick Kennedy went absolutely bonkers on the house floor yesterday.  It was quite the spectacular melt-down, if I do say so myself.  And I speak with some authority on that, as I live with a toddler.  So what was he so upset about? Massa.  Specifically the media attention being given to him over the war in Afghanistan.  Whether or not he had a valid point, his tantrum poked holes in any arguments he may have had.

As a conservative, I gotta say… it’s pretty fun to kick back and watch the show.  The liberals are imploding like a house of cards.  And the best part is they’re doing it to themselves.  I can’t wait for November 2nd, even if it means I’ll have less entertainment on C-SPAN.  This is politics, not a circus freak show.
