Michelle Obama’s $495 Gardening Boots Irk Me

In a post I wrote regarding Michelle Obama and her plans to parent our children for us, I remarked about her $495 Tory Burch gardening boots. A few of the comments wondered why I brought them up, and why, as acapitalist, would I have a problem with pricey shoes?

The boots were mentioned to remind readers of how out of touch with reality the First Lady is. The average American mama doesn’t have a single pair of shoes in her closet that cost that much, let alone gardening boots. When I’m inclined to work outdoors, I put on a pair of three-year-old sneakers that are practically falling apart.

Referring to the self-appointed mom-in-chief’s aloofness when it comes to relating to us regular moms was useful to drive home the point that she is not qualified to make our parenting decisions for us. Only the best for the Obamas, whether it’s boots, schoolvacationvacationvacation, or vacation. The rest of us can eat cake. Or carrot sticks.

Michelle Obama Fights the Childhood Obesity Epidemic

First Lady Michelle Obama has a problem with fat kids. More specifically, she doesn’t like childhood obesity. Last year she launched the Let’s Move campaign, with the goal of ending childhood obesity in a generation. After all, it isnational security risk (insert eye roll here).

Lady Michelle promoted legislation to overhaul school lunches, which her husband signed into law at the risk of sleeping on the couch. She’s constantly on my TV when my kids are watching their shows, encouraging young viewers to get active. She even slips into her$495 Tory Burch boots to do some organic gardening at the White House.

Most recently, Mrs. Obama has been talking with the National Restaurant Association about providing smaller portions andhealthier options on the kids’ menu. She must know better than restaurateurs how to run their businesses.

The State of the Union and Bipartisanship

The State of the Union address is tonight, and in an effort to promote sacred unity, some Republicans and Democrats will sit together, instead of on their own sides of the aisle.

Kumbaya, my Lord Mother Gaia, kumbaya.

Democrats have been calling for greater bipartisanship since they got creamed last November, but they really ratcheted it up a few weeks ago during the Giffords massacre in Arizona. After the media got done blaming Sarah Palin (which, by the way, they still have not apologized for), a new tone for Congress was called for. Because, you know, using the term ‘Obamacare’ to describe Obama’s health care mandates might incite violence.

Days later, Democrat Representative Steve Cohen likened the GOP to both baby murderer Goebbels and the Nazis. He must have missed the ‘new tone’ memo.

Moving forward with this new tone/civility/bipartisanship stuff, some of our lawmakers are eschewing almost 100 years of traditional separate seating to join hands (figuratively speaking … I hope) in solidarity.

The time for looking beyond the partisan divide was January 8, when our nation should have joined together to mourn the deadly actions of an insane man. Instead, liberals pointed fingers at the right. Now they want to play ‘peace and love’? It doesn’t jive.

Anti-American Song Played at White House State Dinner

Chinese President Hu Jintao visited the White House last week. He probably wanted to inspect the country to make sure we’ll be able to pay back the $900 billion or so that we owe China.

On January 19, there was a big fancy-schmancy dinner to honor the visiting delegates. As part of the entertainment, Chinese pianist Lang Lang played anti-American propaganda song.

Let me repeat that: As part of the entertainment at a White House state dinner to honor the President of China, a well known, anti-American song was played.

At the White House State dinner on Jan. 19, about six minutes into his set, Lang Lang began tapping out a famous anti-American propaganda melody from the Korean War: the theme song to the movie “Battle on Shangganling Mountain.”

The movie and the tune are widely known among Chinese, and the song has been a leading piece of anti-American propaganda by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for decades. CCP propaganda has always referred to the Korean War as the “movement to resist America and help [North] Korea.” The message of the propaganda is that the United States is an enemy—in fighting in the Korean War the United States’ real goal was said to be to invade and conquer China.

The rest of the world is laughing in our faces and all our president can do is bow to them.

States Fight Back Over Obamacare

It’s official. People don’t like the new health care law. Half of the states are suing the Obama Administration to stop Obamacare. How many ways do we need to say it? Except for a few fringe leftists, nobody likes the bill that had to be made law before we could find out what was in it.

We decorated protest signs with magic markers, we went to rallies, we abandoned the mainstream media, we went to Washington, we elected a Republican in Massachusetts … We said, “No thank you,” to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and their bankrupting bill disguised as ‘health care reform.’

They rammed it down our throats anyway and told us we should be grateful. They insist that it reduces the deficit, and that repealing it would ‘cost’ taxpayers $230 billion over 10 years. I’m not sure how repealing a $940 billion spending bill adds to the debt, but then again, I’m still confused as to why I should pay someone else’s medical bills.

No Frontrunner? No Problem!

Who’s going to defeat Obama in 2012? Can we defeat Obama in 2012? Is Donald Trump going to be president? That might be worth it just so he can say, “Mr. President — you’re fired!”

How awesome would that be?

There are already some names in the ring, but no frontrunner. There are some recycled candidates from the 2008 primary – Huckabee, Romney (oh please no), and Giuliani are contemplating another run. Former Speaker of the House Gingrich has always had his eye on the White House. Republican governors Barbour, Daniels, and Perry could run. Senator Thune, Representative Pence, and of course Sarah Palin are also potentials.

My friends at RedState.com think Herman Cain has a shot. I think hope springs eternal. Remember Duncan Hunter from the 2008 season? Nope? Great guy, but you need national name recognition to win.

Bottom line: we have no idea who’s going to represent us on the 2012 Republican ticket. And I’m ok with that. What we do have is a level playing field. Our contenders will have ample opportunity over the next year or so to show their true mettle and come out on top of the dog pile.

We’re going to need a fighter in this presidential race. Winning elections is pretty much the only thing Obama is good at.

Republicans Can’t Repeal Obamacare … But They Should Try

The 112th Congress was sworn in on Wednesday, bringing a Republican majority to the House of Representatives and new Speaker John Boehner (say Bay-ner, not Boner). First item on the agenda: Repealing Obamacare.

Of course, that’s never going to happen in the next two years. Despite the health care law’s tendency to discriminate against womenchildren, and small businesses, the repeal will never pass through the Democrat-controlled Senate and certainly would never be signed by President Obama.

It doesn’t matter that 60% of Americans oppose Obamacare, or that states are repealing the law all on their own; the Democrats know what’s good for you, gosh darn it, and that’s to have a health care system asspectacular as Canada’s. And the Democrats wonder why they gotslaughtered at the polls in November.

Obama, Hawaii, and Conspiracy Theories

President Obama’s Hawaiian vacation has been extended. Which isn’t really very surprising. After all, this is the family that says everyone needs to tighten their belts, yet takes expensive European vacations.

For the record, I like vacations, and don’t begrudge anyone a Christmas in Hawaii. But if you’re going to advocate ‘social justice,’ I want to know where MY vacation is. It’s sooooo unfair that Obama gets to jet set around while I’m stuck in my living room trying to figure out how I’m going to pay all my exorbitant taxes.

On the other hand, if he’s in Hawaii that means he’s not in D.C. pushing for whatever Nanny State law is on his agenda this week. So party away, Mr. President!

In other Hawaii news, Governor Neil Abercrombie has personally vouched for Obama’s citizenship. How nice. Now that most of the hullabaloo over Baby Barack’s Birthplace has finally started to die down, the Democratic Governor of Obama’s birth state has restirred the pot.

My guess is that Governor Abercrombie wants the media to refocus attention on the birthers again, so that Democrats can say all Republicans are crazy people.  Democrats like being able to do that, and the media just eats it up. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – if the Clinton machine wasn’t able to uncover Obama’s invalid citizenship, he had to have been born in the U.S.A.

I’m sure that Obama loves the attention over his citizenship, especially as it draws scrutiny away from his liberal politics and the nanny state agenda he’s been ramming through congress. Otherwise, as Chris Matthews suggests, why wouldn’t he just release all the information and be done with it?

I was talking to someone about this issue today, and he suggested a few reasons why Obama might not want to reveal his actual birth certificate.

  1. It might disclose that Obama’s baby-daddy is someone different than the father he dreams of.
  2. It might state his religion as Muslim, and let’s face it; the only thing more annoying than the Obama-isn’t-a-citizen crowd is the Obama-is-a-Muslim crowd. Besides, I thought the matter of Obama’s religion was settled. He’s obviously a narcissist.
  3. Obama was actually born a girl.*

And there you have it. The best birther theory I have ever heard.

*For the record, the person I was chatting with was being funny, and fully believes that Obama is an American citizen, even if he is a Keynesian.

Obama Moves Center, Keeps Circle of Economics Turning

Far left Democratic leadership has moved closer to the middle this week. On Thursday night, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) dropped the $1.1 trillion dollar omnibus bill, claiming he didn’t have the votes to pass it. Instead, an extension will be granted to keep government payments at their current levels until February, when a new budget can be passed.

Earlier today President Obama signed into law an extension of the Bush tax cuts for all income brackets for the next two years. Previously, Obama had said he opposed keeping taxes low for high-income earners. He agreed to this deal with the Republicans in exchange for an extension on unemployment insurance for the long-time unemployed.

Memo to Washington: Stop the Excessive Spending!

Government spending has to be renewed every year. Which means that an annual budget needs to be passed by Congress and signed by the President. That budget is currently being debated in the Senate, as the deadline to pass it is this Saturday at midnight. If it’s not passed, the government will discontinue nonessential services until we can come to some sort of agreement about how and where to spend taxpayer dollars.

The omnibus spending bill is nearly 2,000 pages long and has a price tag of $1,270,000,000,000, which includes $8,000,000,000 in earmark spending. There are thousands of these pet-projects in the bill, including $247,000 for virus free wine grapes in Washington State and $400,000 for solar parking canopies and plug-in electric stations in Kansas.

Republicans are outraged at this excessive spending, and are refusing to pass the bill because of it. Never mind that some of them have their own earmarks in there. The thing about earmarks — they’re necessary for politicians to get a slice of the pie for their constituents. If politicians don’t bring home the proverbial bacon for their districts or states, they face losing their jobs by being voted out. The system might be messed up, but it is what it is, and until we start asking serious questions about the practicality of using federal funds for local projects, it stays.
