Tucker Carlson: Tasteless, Not Misogynist

This morning I did what I do every morning. Hit the snooze bar too many times, finally look over at the clock, sit bolt upright and say, “Crap!” Then there’s a crazy flight-of-the-bumblebee dance as Leif gets ready for work and I get Thing 1 breakfasted, dressed, and ready for school.

Because I’m a news junkie, I can find at least thirty seconds in there to check the headlines on Twitter. Where I saw a lot of people upset with Tucker Carlson for a comment he made about Sarah Palin: “Palin’s popularity falling in Iowa, but maintains lead to become supreme commander of Milfistan.”

MILF has become common vernacular, and even though it’s technically an acronym for Mom I’d Like to Fornicate with (ok, the F is for something else … I’ll leave it at that), I take it to mean nothing more than hot mama. The term might be crass, but Sarah Palin is a very pretty lady, and I don’t have a problem acknowledging that.

I would be offended if Carlson had indicated that Palin’s slippage in the Iowa polls was because she was a pretty face and nothing more, but I just don’t see that. I see a dude that has put his foot in his mouth before (Remember when he said Michael Vick should be executed?) doing it again.

Carlson tried, in a funny and contemporary way, to say, “Palin might be falling in the polls, but at least she’s still pretty.” I’ve had more than one friend look at me after I’ve said something really dumb or been dealt a blow and said, “Aw, Honey, you’re so pretty.”

It’s meant to be silly. It’s not to be taken seriously. Carlson may have used a tasteless word that many take offense to, but he’s not a woman-bashing misogynist. He just has a chronic case of word-vomit.

Who Needs a Man? I Do!

In this fabulous era of equality, I’m hard-pressed to find something a man can do that I can’t. Maybe pee standing up, but that’s about it. I have the same opportunities as men in this glorious nation. Opportunities for an education, a career, the right to vote — things our grandmothers and great-grandmothers could only dream of.

It was a hard-won fight by our foremothers, but by golly, we have arrived. Growing up in the tail end of the twentieth-century, it never occurred to me to limit myself based on my gender. I never played dumb to attract a boy (in fact I tutored more than one boyfriend), never feared discrimination for having breasts, and never needed a man to intercede on my behalf.

In other words: I am woman, hear me roar!

Unfortunately, many of my homegirls have taken this whole equal-to-a-man concept and erroneously transformed it into a we-don’t-need-men-except-as-sperm-donors ideal. Want kids, but don’t want to put up with a pesky man and his stinky feet and his whiskers in the sink every morning? Just get yourself a spermsicle, and you too can be aglamorous single mom!

Who needs a perpetual man-child anyway? Aren’t we better off without them?

Anti-Abortion Bill Does Not Legalize Rape

It’s no wonder that Republicans have such a bad rap with progressives. Apparently, we want to legalize rape. I wouldn’t like Republicans either if that were even one teensy weensy bit true.

The controversy stems from the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortions Act, which seeks to expand existing Hyde amendment restrictions on the use of taxpayer money for abortions by prohibiting indirect funding and tax-exemptions to businesses that provide abortions.

As it stands now, the government claims it doesn’t fund abortions with taxpayer money, yet billions of dollars go to Planned Parenthood for non-abortion services. Which then frees up ‘private’ money for abortions and advice on how to run an underage sex slave ring.

The legislation includes an exemption for the 3% or less of abortions performed after rape or to preserve the life of the mother. The bill explicitly states that federal funding will not be withheld from women that ‘need’ an abortion, just those that ‘want’ an abortion.

Defend Women. Defend Life.

When the gut-wrenching story broke of the Philadelphia abortionist that routinely delivered live, viable babies before jamming scissors into their brains to kill them, I had to write about it.

The part of the story that struck me so deeply was the desperation that those women felt walking into that clinic. I don’t believe that anyone wants an abortion; but that women are pressured by family, friends, and society (mostly well-meaning, I’m sure) to believe that the procedure is no big deal.

How far below rock bottom does a woman have to be to walk into a filthy ‘clinic’ and have the kicking, squirming life sucked out of her? That woman needs love and support, not the legal right to an abortion. In the article I wrote, I mentioned some ways to actually help pregnant women, such as donating money to cover prenatal care for those that can’t afford it, bringing meals to single moms trying to make it, or volunteering with a pregnancy care center or adoption agency.

For that I got called a woman-hater.

It turns out that unless one believes that a mother-to-be has the right to end the life of her unborn child, that person hates women. I vehemently dispute that claim. I do like women. I like men, too for the record. I like all people no matter how big or small, no matter their age, and no matter where they live: In a mansion, on the street, or in a uterus.

I believe that God created humans (and other stuff … like everything), and even though you’re not going to get along with everyone, life is worthy of respect.

Abortion Doctor Kills 7 Newborn Babies & a Mom

Warning: The following content contains graphic language about dead babies. It will probably make you cry. Or throw up. Or both.

An abortionist in West Philadelphia has been arrested and charged with eight counts of murder – seven of them being babies born alive after a botched, illegal late-term abortion, and one being a woman who died of an overdose of anesthesia.

Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 69, made millions of dollars over 30 years, performing as many illegal, late-term abortions as he could, prosecutors said. State regulators ignored complaints about him and failed to visit or inspect his clinic since 1993, but no charges were warranted against them, District Attorney Seth Williams said.

Gosnell “induced labor, forced the live birth of viable babies in the sixth, seventh, eighth month of pregnancy and then killed those babies by cutting into the back of the neck with scissors and severing their spinal cord,” Williams said.

Williams said patients were subjected to squalid and barbaric conditions at Gosnell’s Women’s Medical Society.

Gosnell is only being charged with seven counts of infanticide because those seven fetuses had the audacity to slip completely from their mother’s body before the doctor could scramble their brains with scissors and kill them. A baby is considered ‘unborn’ if it’s head still remains within the birth canal, so the thousands of children dead by Gosnell’s hands can’t be counted as murders.

‘Harry Potter’ Actress Beaten for Dating a Non-Muslim

We’ve all dated guys our dads or brothers didn’t like. In fact, looking back at my dating past, I’m impressed with my dad for the composure he maintained when I introduced him to a couple of my squeezes. While he may have been thinking, “No daughter of mine will ever end up with spiky-haired mama’s boy like you,” he managed a cool, “Have her back by 11. And I’m friendly with allthe cops. And I’m an attorney. Just so you know.”

I was always home by curfew.

As a teenager, I hated that my parents didn’t ‘trust’ me enough to let go of the reins, but at the ripe old age of 27, I’ve wisely figured out that they understood teenaged boys a lot better than I did. They were protective of me because they cherished me as their daughter, and couldn’t bear to see me get hurt.

It boggles my mind when I read stories like Afshan Azad’s. The 22-year-old Harry Potter star recently had to flee her home after being attacked by her old brother and receiving death threats from him and their father.  Her offense was dating a non-Muslim man.

Ted Turner Better Keep His Hands (and His Politics) Off My Uterus

A global gathering of talking heads and delegates are currently convened in Cancun, Mexico to discuss global warming. Er, climate change. ‘Warming’ is a bit of a misnomer with all the record cold going on.

I am a huge proponent of being good stewards of the Earth, and I think we should use our resources wisely. But some of the ideas being tossed around the Mother Earth fascists range from unsettling to downright disturbing.

One of the realistic goals covered at the conference so far has been setting up a $100 billion-a-year fund from developed countries to help developing nations implement greener technology.  I’m sure Cambodia’s evil dictator Hun Sen would never launder that money and use it for his own malicious purposes.

If that’s a realistic goal, then the unrealistic, shoot-for-the-moon goals must be doozies. Have no fear, the environ-wackos rarely fail to disappoint in the area of sheer lunacy.

Keep Taxes Low for the Rich to Help the Poor (and Everybody Else)

Are you ready for the biggest tax increase in United States history? Me neither. My only hope is that the still Democratic-majority Congress will vote to extend or even make permanent the so-called Bush tax cuts.

As it stands now, everyone’s taxes are set to go up January 1. The average American household making the average American income of $52,029 will see its federal taxes go up 10%, from $11,261 to $12,441.

That’s a lot of money to be forking over to the government so that Congressman John Conyer’s scalper son can have a sweet ride.

It seems that most of Congress wants to extend some of the tax cuts — specifically for those households making under $250,000 or individuals making under $200,000 annually.

This discriminates against high-income earners, who are already picking up more than their fair share. The top 1% of earners (those making more than $352,900) pay 28.1% of all federal taxes. Despite what Warren Buffet says about ‘doing his part’ for society, it’s not fair to foist your beliefs on other people.

Gender Inequality? Fair Pay Is a Lifestyle Choice

On Wednesday, the Senate voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act, which supposedly would have closed the gap between the amount of money that men and women earn in similar jobs. If passed, the bill would have required small businesses to submit data on sex, race, national origin, and earning to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Naturally, the Huffington Post reported: Republicans Block an Up-or-Down Vote on the Paycheck Fairness Act. Which is a very silly sentiment for a Congress that is striving for compromise and bipartisanship. The vote went straight down party lines, with the Democrats voting for it, and Republicans voting against it. Only one senator, Ben Nelson (D-NE), crossed the aisle with his vote. If a bill can’t get a single “yea” vote from an entire party, it probably shouldn’t be passed.

It is true that on averagemen earn more than women. I view that as a triumph. It means that women are actually choosing their own lifestyles; some are choosing to work while others are choosing to stay home and care for their families.

The fact of the matter is that women actually make more money than men, when all factors are considered. If you look strictly at education level, time on the job, and training, women come out ahead of men in income. The studies that spout the false idea that women are oppressed in the workplace don’t take those factors into consideration.

Government Health Care Rationing: Sorry Ladies, No Drugs for You

Last week we learned that ObamaCare hurts small to medium businesses by offering special waivers to the big boys like McDonald’s. What good are rules if they keep changing?

It’s (relatively) easy to pass a law requiring all citizens to purchase health insurance. The difficulty lies in actually providing medical attention to everyone who needs it. Here’s a secret that Nancy Pelosi forgot to tell you: Health insurance does not equal health care.

Since the government can’t force anyone to be a doctor, nurse, or drug-developing scientist, there’s a finite number of health care providers. In a free market, people rise up to supply the demands of society. In an ObamaCare world, people don’t want to bedoctors anymore, because there’s just too much hassle and red tape involved with government-run health care.

Now we have fewer doctors and more people wanting cheap (or free!) medical attention. (Sidebar: When are accountants going to be mandated? Because I could sure use one of those to figure out my taxes.) Something has got to give; the question is what?

Apparently the answer is services and drugs specifically for women. Last year, the U.S. Preventative Task Force recommended a reduction in the number of mammograms women receive in their 40s and beyond.

Recently, the FDA has been playing around with rationing the use of Avastin for women with breast cancer. The cutting-edge drug has been proven to extend the lives of women suffering from advanced breast cancer. The drug could still be marketed to treat other cancers such colon and lung cancer. This move suggests that the FDA is keen on rationing women’s access to health care.

From Holly Pitt Young:

When the FDA takes something “off label,” it is actually rationing treatment. It essentially gives Medicare and most insurance companies permission and justification to deny coverage for the medication.

Government health care at work: Good-bye innovation, hello rationing.
