SEIU Drops Medical Coverage for Poor Children

SEIU (Service Employees International Union) has spent millions of dollars getting Barack Obama and other Democrats elected. The famously left-wing labor union supported the presidential candidate that was going to pay Peggy Su’s mortgage and put gas in her car.

Unions are all about the little people.

One of Obama’s biggest campaign promises was for health care reform, specifically universal health care. It works so well in Canada, after all. SEIU openly supported Obama in the 2008 Presidential election.

Obama was elected, everyone partied (and left their litter behind), and everyone waited for change to come to America. In one of the few campaign promises that the President has actually kept, he signed into law a bill that would transform our health care system into a nationalizedone.

Be careful what you wish for. Since ObamaCare passed last March, small businesses have dropped health care coverage for their employees while big businesses got special exemptions, and drug relabeling has discriminated against women with cancer. Taxes have gone up, and will continue to do so.

WikiLeaks Scandal: Free Speech or Terrorism?

Over the weekend, the website WikiLeaks released over 250,000classified State Department documents. Top-secret information about everything from Iran’s nuclear status to concerns over China’s growthas a superpower to the potentiality of a united Korean peninsulasuddenly became public knowledge.

Secretary of State Clinton is mad. President Obama is cracking down with a zero-tolerance policy for anyone caught leaking information. Congressman Pete King (R-NY) is calling for the government to declare WikiLeaks a foreign terrorist organization, in order to “seize their funds and go after anyone who provides them help or contributions or assistance whatsoever.”

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange claims that total transparency is in the public’s best interest.

National Debt: Raise the Ceiling or Cut the Spending?

With the US Debt Clock continuing to tick, and the incoming freshman class in Congress saying they’ll vote against raising thedebt ceiling, it looks like Uncle Sam is going to have to go digging under the sofa cushions for loose change.

It turns out that money doesn’t grow on trees.

Margaret Thatcher once said, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.” We are officially out of money. Actually, we were out of money years ago, so we started borrowing it from China and future generations.

With all the wonderful government initiatives to pay for (wait — I thought health care was going to be free?), the money has to come from somewhere. It must be time for a tax increase. Maybe eliminating the mortgage interest deduction would help. What about a Value Added Tax? Of course, we could just let the Bush tax cuts expire in January.

Government Waste on the New Jersey Turnpike

In a perfect world, we’d all be kabillionaires. We’d all go to work and do something beneficial to mankind, like cure AIDS or breed cats that stayed adorable little kittens forever. Our children would all be on the honor roll, we’d all have 17 pairs of Manolo Blahniks, and our personal chefs would create delicious low-fat meals for us.

That’s fantasy. This is planet Earth. No one ever said life was fair, or easy, or even that you’d get what you deserved. Life has actually been pretty crappy for most people in history. Thankfully, today in America our biggest problems seem to be whether or not everyone should have to pay for doctors’ medical expertise.

We Americans have pretty much been left alone to flourish, and flourish we have. We have gone from a land of immigrant misfits to the biggest, baddest nation on the planet, and no, I will not apologize for it. Somebody has to be the best, why not us?

Capitalism isn’t perfect. It is flawed. But it does something that socialism doesn’t do. It takes into account basic human nature. We are flawed. We all want the best for ourselves, whether that means an Ivy League education and the corner office, or 2.7 beautiful, perfectly mannered children with your gorgeous lawyer husband that fixes up the house on the weekends.

In America, if you’re willing to work hard, make some sacrifices, and take a risk or two, there’s a high probability you will achieve your goal. But you have to work for it. People don’t just fall into primo jobs without working their way up the ladder, and children don’t behave unless they are taught to behave.

There’s no guarantee of everything coming up roses, but there’s the chance it will. This is uniquely American. Until our country came around, the idea that the government was there to protect our God-given rights, not decide what they were, people stayed in the same station they were born into. There was no opportunity for them to pursue a different life like there has been in the United States. Abraham Lincoln, the man that held a divided nation together with intelligence and grace, was born in a log cabin in the backwoods of Illinois, for Pete’s sake.

This genius system begins to break down when the government takes our money and wastes it. Of course we need things like roads and cops and super buff firemen. But do we need the New Jersey Turnpike Authority to waste $43 million on perks and bonuses?

According to reports,

The audit says that toll dollars From [sic] the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway were spent on items ranging from an employee bowling league to employee bonuses for working on birthdays and holidays.

It took place as tolls were being increased.

The biggest expense uncovered in the audit was $30 million in unjustified bonuses to employees and management in 2008 and 2009 without consideration of performance.

One example was paying employees overtime for removing snow and working holidays and then giving additional “snow removal bonuses” and “holiday bonuses.”

In a perfect world, everyone would get a snow removal bonus. But this is reality, and in reality, you can’t get something from nothing. The money for the government employees’ bowling leagues and ridiculous bonuses came out of our pockets — money that could’ve been spent on soccer uniforms or Manolos or fancy wine.

It’s easy to say that everyone deserves the best in life. It’s another thing to pay for someone else to have it.

Bailouts, Short Sales, and Unemployment: The Vicious Cycle of a Downward Economy

A few months ago, I overheard someone discussing selling their home and buying a new one. She was lamenting the fact that they were doing a short sale, selling the house for less than they bought it for. The woman and her friend then proceeded to moan and groan about the buyer who was “stealing” their equity money.

Wait, what? Who is actually the thief in this situation? When you buy a house, you agree to pay a certain amount of money for it. The couple doing the short sale has dishonored that commitment, thereby “stealing” money from the bank. The new couple has not yet broken any financial promises.

When thinking about the housing market in 2010, words like short saleforeclosures, and upside down mortgages come to mind. Remember back in the early 2000s, when you could buy a house with no equity, hold on to it for a couple of months, then flip it and cash out thousands in equity?

Maybe that ease of purchase is exactly what led to the rapidly declining real estate market. What’s to make someone hold on to a home when they have nothing invested in it? Easy come; easy go, as they say.

Once a few people realized they were in over their heads with their massive mortgages, they dumped them onto the market and moved into housing more within their means. With a dramatic increase in the number of houses on the market, the overall value of homes continued to decline.

Inflation continues to rise, and more people are filing for unemployment benefits than ever before. A few years ago, people could open a home equity line of credit to cover their living costs, but now they must find other ways to make ends meet. Employers aren’t excited to hire anyone right now; they’re trying to figure out how many people they’re going to be able to keep on board with new health insurance mandates and the biggest tax increase in history right around the corner.

Many people, like the woman I overheard, are dumping their homes on the market, while the banks pick up the tab. Ever heard of the bank bailouts? Taxpayer dollars are bailing out the banks that bailed out irresponsible homebuyers.

It’s a vicious cycle that can only be stopped by believing in people and encouraging them to be responsible. As we’ve seen, bailouts only enable those who take advantage of the system. Our economy is an intricate yet simple machine, but the cogs aren’t turning right now. Let’s bring back the concept of personal responsibility and restore America to the land of freedom, integrity, and opportunity once more.

Jenny Erikson Radio Show – Episode 0003

In which I talk about the liberal litter bugs in DC, my favorite #WhyImVotingDemocrat tweets, and chat with Princella Smith about feminism, fetuses, and race.

The Liberal Litter Bugs on the Mall

On Saturday my friends and I went to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to check out the museums and monuments and to generally revel in being American. I even got to ride the metro for the first time ever! It was very exciting, and I learned a new rule: Don’t touch anything on the subway.

It was a gorgeous day in the capitol. Seriously, It was so pretty I almost heard music playing in the background. It was also full of a bunch of people wearing purple shirts and carrying fancy-schmancy SIEU signs.

Is a $0.49 piece of poster board and a magic marker not good enough for yah?

The “One Nation Working Together” rally was Saturday, so unions and other leftest groups bussed in thousands of attendees to whine and complain that America sucks. Like one of my friends said, it’s easy to get union members to come to political events. Monday mornings roll around awfully fast, after all.

We even witnessed a couple of UAW chapter bosses checking people off a list as they saw them. It kills me that we didn’t get video.

While it was a bit crowded, it was nothing like the photos I saw from the Restoring Honor Rally, or the 9/12 March. It was obvious that the attendance was a fraction of what it was for conservative events.

Being the responsible, law-abiding citizens we are, conservatives left the lawn as they had found it: Green and clean.

The lefty liberals? Not so much. Here are just a few shots of what we saw on the Mall.

Fight the debris, Nimrod

Obama supporters did this

Poor Abe had to witness this

One Nation attendees, you should be ashamed of yourselves

What a sad day. The left can’t get people to an event without bussing them in and making sure their bosses cross their names off the list. The left can’t make their own signs, they have to be handed flashy manufactured ones. The left can’t even get people to respect the National Mall, a place that deserves reverence. The left can’t get a group of people that claim to care about the environment to, you know, actually care about the environment.

I overheard one of the attendees talking to a park ranger. “I just don’t understand,” he said, “Why is there so much trash? I heard there wasn’t any at that Beck rally … How did they do it?”

Because conservatives aren’t a bunch of whiney litter bugs with no sense of personal responsibility.

That’s how.

10 Biggest Truths About Conservatives

Conservatives, especially conservative women, can take quite a beating. Just ask Sarah Palin, Nikki Haley, Christine O’Donnell, Michele Bachmann, or Michelle Malkin, just to name a few that deal with constant attacks on everything from their politics to their parenting to their femininity.

Mashed up bag of meat with lipstick, anyone?

Sure we conservatives like guns and babies and the founders, but liberals have taken some of the core principles of conservatism and twisted them into something untruthful.

Allow me to clarify, and explain the reality behind some of thoseConservative Truths you think are so awful.

1. Conservatives Love Religion

Freedom of religion, that is. Crosses, menorahs, the Ten Commandments, and even those “COEXIST” bumper stickers don’t offend us. What is offensive is the left’s attempt to push around anyone that chooses to participate in religious rituals or traditions. They’re not “holiday” trees, people, and nobody is forcing you to decorate one, let alone celebrate the birth of Christ.

2. Conservatives Don’t Believe in Welfare

The problem with welfare is that it’s a system comprised of involuntary redistribution of wealth and rampant fraud. As earners are taxed more and more heavily, their ability to give to charity, expand their businesses, or even just purchase cool stuff (creating manufacturing and retail jobs) shrinks. Which means more people on welfare, to be supported by fewer earners. To paraphrase Margaret Thatcher, the problem with welfare is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.

3. Conservatives Think Men and Women Should Be Treated Differently

Equality does not mean sameness. Whether it was God or evolution that created us, conservatives understand that men and women are inherently different, and that we complement each other. At the same time, our gender doesn’t hold us back. Women have already achieved workplace equality, and we don’t need to open our own doors to prove our self-worth.

4. Conservatives Don’t Care Who’s Gay

Or more specifically, conservatives don’t care whether someone is gay or straight. We’re all about freedom of choice and expression on the right side of the aisle, and we truly believe all men were created equal. Sexual orientation doesn’t make one person better or worse than another, it just makes them different. Remember, equality does not equal sameness.

5. Conservatives View War as Necessary

The left labels Conservatives as warmongers, but this simply isn’t true. I don’t think anyone actually likes war and violence (aside from sickos like Chelsea King‘s murderer John Gardner), yet conservatives recognize the need for it at times. There are some seriously bad people out there that would destroy us without thinking twice if they had no fear of retaliation. War is a necessary evil in the fight for peace. I seriously doubt Osama bin Laden would’ve called off the 9/11 attacks if only President Bush had sat down for a chat with milk and cookies with him.

6. Conservatives Hate Abortion

Anti-abortion and anti-woman are not synonymous. Conservatives empower women to make their own choices, especially about their bodies, and then empower those same women to overcome any negative outcomes that those choices might result in. Women have a right to choose whether or not to have sex, and children (even unborn ones) have the right to live. Isn’t every baby a blessing — especially to adoptive parents?

7. Conservatives Like Money

Why not? Money makes the world go round, after all. Conservatives are capitalists, which means that we understand that it’s in man’s basic nature to want bigger and better things. To some people that’s a life of luxury, and to others it’s a life of philanthropy, but both take money. Getting back down to that conservative value of free choice, we believe that it’s up to the individual to decide how to spend their money, even if we don’t agree with it.

8. Conservatives Don’t Believe the Government Is There to Ensure Health and Prosperity

The preamble and article 1 of the Constitution refer to the “general welfare” of the people, and the government’s role in promoting it. When did this become a directive for the government to provide all sorts of welfare programs? The founders came from oppressive governments, and did not believe in a system that gave special treatment to privileged groups or individuals in society. The government is there to protect our rights to life, liberty, and property, not to provide a lifestyle.

9. Conservatives Believe Liberals Just Don’t Get It

Winston Churchill said, “If you are young and not a liberal you have no heart, and when you’re old if you are not conservative you have no brain.” Liberals truly want to help people, and their tender, bleeding hearts believe that government is the one to provide that help. As they grow and mature and gain wisdom through the years, they begin to understand that welfare and big government and peace talks with terrorists just don’t work.

10. Conservatives Have Legal Sex

I guess we don’t need to throw anything illegal (Drugs? Hookers?) into the mix to have crazy sex. We’re hot enough as is, in both looks and personality.

A Tale of Two Females: The Sexy Reporter and the Six-Year-Old Cheerleader

Some days I marvel at the backwards world we live in. Earlier this week I read about Ines Sainz, Mexico’s Hottest Reporter, becoming distraught because virile, athletic men wolf-whistled at her as she romped around their NFL locker room in a tight blouse and even tighter jeans.

The horror! How dare those men treat Ms. Sainz like an attractive woman obviously showing off her beautiful body in the men’s locker room? According to so-called-feminists like Joy Behar, grown women who choose to dress provocatively, post pictures of themselves in bikinis on their employer’s website, and traipse through an NFL locker rooms need to be protected from men’s raucous wolf-whistles.

Meanwhile in Michigan, a 6-year-old has been kicked off her cheerleading squad because her parents didn’t want her to participate in chanting a risqué cheer. The questionable cheer was, “Our backs ache, our skirts are too tight, we shake our booties from left to right.”

Jennifer and Duane Tesch’s daughter Kennedy was unanimously voted off the Madison Heights Wolverines flag football cheerleading team on Tuesday night, after they voiced concerns over the suggestive words of the cheer.

“I don’t even have the words,” Jennifer Tesch told FoxNews.com. “I can’t believe their solution to this was to remove my daughter from the team. She’s going to be devastated. She’s going to be crying.”

Let me get this straight. On one hand, we have 32-year-old sexpot Ines Sainz crying foul at men whistling in a complimentary way at the sensual look that she works hard to project, and we’re all supposed to come to her rescue. On the other hand, we have 6-year-old Kennedy Tesch getting kicked off of her cheerleading squad because her parents didn’t want her to wet some pedophile pants with a suggestive cheer, and we’re called prudes if we question it?

Am I the only one that sees something wrong with this picture?

How backwards is our world that grown women who freely flaunt their sexuality are afforded more protection than little girls on a cheerleading squad?

Obama Slams Boehner for ‘Holding Tax Cuts Hostage’

On Wednesday, President Obama slammed House Minority LeaderJohn Boehner‘s proposal to extend the Bush tax cuts an additional two years. As things stand now, Robin Hood Uncle Sam is poised and waiting for January 1, 2011, when he’ll be able to grab some cash bags from the greedy rich and give them back to their rightful owners — themiddle-class.

Like most liberal theories, there’s a giant flaw in this one: The rich did not steal their money from the middle-class, nor did they oppress anyone to get it. They earned it through hard work, ingenuity, determination, or simply being born into the right family. Those lucky ones born into wealth have to work to keep it. Even Paris Hilton designs purses.

Obama is disguising a transfer of wealth as “middle-class tax cuts,” but don’t let the wool be pulled over your eyes. The rich earned their dollars, and aside from taxes for infrastructure, it should be theirs to keep or spend as they see fit. More often than not, they use that money to expand operations and create new jobs.

Excessive taxation takes away an employer’s ability to pay her employees, resulting in increased unemployment. Obama says he’s lowering middle-class taxes, but all he’s doing is giving them a pay raise at the employer’s expense; one they might not be able to afford. How is that tax break going to work when your job disappears?

This is America. We are a nation of people that came here for an opportunity, not a handout. Rich people should not be viewed as greedy in general, nor should they arouse the green-eyed monsters within us. They should be respected for achieving their American dream, and emulated if obtaining wealth is your dream too.

President Obama, you may mock and insult John Boehner for “holding middle-class tax cuts hostage,” but I applaud him for holding fast to the American values that built our country.
