GMA Is In the House

Thing 1 and Abbie chatting about fashion

Aggh!!! TV camera on me right now! I’m totally going to have to blog about this. Hmmm … maybe I’ll turn this into a blog post. Yes, That’s what I’ll do.

Remember when I told you Good Morning America was coming over? You know, just a typical Monday for this girl. You see … I wrote this thing about Victoria’s Secret on The Stir … and people liked it. Of course I’m sure some people didn’t, but you can’t please everyone.

So the film crew is here, and I’m supposed to be looking like I’m actually, you know, writing something, so I thought, why not write a blog post about them being here?

Jeff and Becky are the camera peeps, and they are super duper nice. Plus they like my kids — and anyone that likes my kids can stay. The reporter and producer are on the way, but they had to stop at the mall first, because they wanted an Orange Julius.

Haha! Just kidding. They went for shots of VS. I’m guessing. You know, because this story is on VS. I’m bright like that.

Leif got called away for some urgent something rather-or-other, so my saintly mama dropped everything and came over to help. She. Is. Awesome. Seriously, thank you Mom!

~~~ Approximately five hours later ~~~
Wowza that was a lot of filming! Had so much fun though. The girls were awesome. I think my favorite line was when ABC correspondent Abbie Boudreau asked Thing 1 whom she looked to for fashion advice … like what movie star?
My sweet girl said that she looked to her mom and gramma for fashion advice. Abbie asked her what kind of advice she got from Gramma, and she replied, “Not to wear socks with sandals.”
Amen, Sistah.
Abbie and her producer Derrick were so fun to work with, and I hope I get to do so again some time. Plus — like Jeff and Becky, they seemed to adore my kids. Seriously people, if you want to get on my good side, tell me how awesome my kids are. I greatly enjoy people that can recognize the truth right in front of them. *wink*
~~~ Approximately one day later ~~~

Soooooo … I totally didn’t post this last night. I know there was more I wanted to add, but at this point, I think I’ll post as-is and save more tell-all until after the segment airs.

Tune into Good Morning America on Thursday, y’all! The segment is scheduled to air in the 8-9 o’clock hour.

  1. Your Daughter is 9 yrs old and STILL A CHILD! Stop dressing her like an adult before she is one. Guarantee your child will be presenting you with your first grandchild way before your ready for it. Don’t make your child grow up before her time. Let her BE A CHILD.

    I also have a 9 year old little girl and I have noticed when I shop for her uunderwear I always try to find pretty cute panties. I can’t say I have gotten any of them from Victoria secret but I also can’t say I wouldn’t but her some boy shorts or full coverage panties from Victoria secret. The purple underwear the mom held up on TV look just like ones I have bought my daughter only from Dillard. Just because it says pink or has a Victoria secret label does not mean the 9 year old is going to grow up promiscuous. This mom enjoys doing girly things with her daughter just like all us moms do. She is not dressing her daughter too mature for her age. IM on your side Jenny

  3. I loved your segment on Gma! Thank you so much for sharing. I too don’t want my daughter to be the ugly panty kid. My daughter is also 9. While I haven’t bought at Victoria Secret for her we so pick out cute panties while teaching her about the differences between pretty and sexy. I remember being the granny panty kid and it sucked. Being in school and changing in front f other girls is already scary without tossing in granny panties. Good job Mom!

    Hi Jenny:

    I am a producer at Access Hollywood Live w/Billy Bush & Kit Hoover. Just saw your story on tweens and lingerie trending on AOL. We’re trying to book a lot more parently friendly topics on our show and would love to discuss being a possible guest

    Could you give me a call or email to discuss more
    Thanks
    Terri

  5. Raise your kid how you like, but I would like to add another side to the story. I was raised by a woman like you who did not teach me appropriate boundaries. While I did not end up on a show called Teen Moms I now see how being overly sexualized (or at least exposed to sexuality) at a early age affected me. And yes, putting it in a kids mind that her underwear are more than just a barrier between her body and her outer clothing is sexualizing her. While I will not put all of the blame on my mom, I wish she had allowed me to be a kid while I could. Just because a nine year old, exposed to so much sexuality in the “media” wants to act like a sixteen year old, and mom thinks it’s cute, it does not mean they are actually emotionally ready for that stage of life. I was not although I seemed very mature on the outside and It has taken me a long time to recover from situations I ended up putting myself in or that other people put me in because of my “maturity level”.

  7. Hi Jenny

    Looks I really don’t see what the big deal My mother bought me panties from Victoria Secret when I was about your daughter age and I’m about to be thirty this summer. I just wanted cute panties with lace I wasn’t thinking about being sexy I just wanted cute girly underwear without cartoon characters on them. I think as long as you have a strong woman as mother who teaches you right from wrong and how to respect yourself as women it’s really doesn’t matter what the heck you wear.
