An Islamic Mosque at Ground Zero … Seriously?

On Monday night, members of a Community Board in New York Cityvoted 29-1 in support of the construction of an Islamic mosque atGround Zero. The Manhattan project plans to open its doors onSeptember 11, 2011, the 10-year anniversary of the deaths of 2,996 people in the name of Islam.

Yeah.

Frankly, I can’t think of anything better than building a place of worship for the religion responsible for every single terrorist attack on America in recent history. Wait, maybe I can. How about not building it?

Islam is not cool. I’m all about free choice, so I have no problem with people choosing to believe whatever they want to believe. If someone wants to be part of a community that oppresses women and encourages violence, then they are welcome to join it. I just hope they never change their minds, because the penalty for leaving Islam is death.

545 People

I love this article. It was written some years ago, but is timeless in America. Keep it in mind when you go the ballot box this election cycle.

By Charlie Reese

(Date of publication unknown)

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don’t write the tax code. Congress does. You and I don’t set fiscal policy. Congress does. You and I don’t control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices – 545 human beings out of the 235 million – are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank.

I excluded all but the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it.

No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislation’s responsibility to determine how he votes.

A CONFIDENCE CONSPIRACY

Don’t you see how the con game that is played on the people by the politicians? Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of Tip O’Neill, who stood up and criticized Ronald Reagan for creating deficits.

The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating appropriations and taxes.

O’neill is the speaker of the House. He is the leader of the majority party. He and his fellow Democrats, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetos it, they can pass it over his veto.

REPLACE SCOUNDRELS

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 235 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted — by present facts – of incompetence and irresponsibility.

I can’t think of a single domestic problem, from an unfair tax code to defense overruns, that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.

When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red. If the Marines are in Lebanon, it’s because they want them in Lebanon.

There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take it.

Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exist disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people and they alone are responsible. They and they alone have the power. They and they alone should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses – provided they have the gumption to manage their own employees.

Grey’s Anatomy & Gun Control

Last night I finally sat down with Leif to watch the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy that has been lingering on our DVR for a week or so. I had heard it was an excellent episode, so I was looking forward to actually seeing it.

I was not disappointed. The action started about ten minutes in and didn’t stop for two hours. My heart pumped so much I’m pretty sure I got an excellent workout. And I went through an entire box of Kleenex.

Spoiler Alert

The episode revolved around a man that lost his wife a few episodes back. She was essentially brain dead, and she had signed papers stating that she didn’t want to live like that and the plug should be pulled. The chief of surgery (Derek) ordered the plug to be pulled, and the wife’s body died. But not after an emotional scene by the husband, who wanted her kept alive on machines, even with no chance of recovery.

So this dude got pissed. And in the finale, he came into the hospital and started shooting people. And pretty much didn’t stop for two hours.

The very last scene, he’s sitting with the gun pointed at one of the prominent characters of the series (Richard). The gunman then started rambling, as crazy people in season finales like to do, and he mentioned how he obtained the gun.

“I just went into Walmart and bought one,” he said. “Did you know you could buy guns at Walmart? There’s a whole section. Aisle six.”

Ok, obviously this guy never would’ve been able to kill people if evil Walmart didn’t sell guns. We obviously need some sort of gun control! Guns kill people!

Except that they don’t. Guns don’t kill people-crazy and/or evil people do.  Do you know what stops those people from killing? Good guys with guns.

It would have been a much different show if one of those people in the hospital had pulled a gun out and shot the crazy guy that was killing almost everyone in his line of vision. Who knows, maybe he wouldn’t even have come to the hospital to shoot it up if he knew the people there were armed.

Government regulations don’t stop bad guys from shooting and killing people. Good guys with guns do.

Dennis Prager. Wow. Just Wow.

Sarah Palin’s New Neighbor

The former Alaskan Governor has a new neighbor for the summer. A Peeping Tom!

Joe McGinnis rented the house next door to the Palin’s Wasilla home, so he could spy on them while he’s writing a book about her. It is not expected to be a flattering portrayal of the politically involved mom.

The whole thing creeps me out. Strange men peeking into my daughter’s windows? Yech.

Palin made the discovery after dispatching her husband Todd to “introduce himself to the stranger who was peering in” from her neighbor’s deck in Wasilla, Alaska.

I love the former beauty queen’s response:

“You know what they say about ‘fences make for good neighbors?’ Well, we’ll get started on that tall fence tomorrow.”

America the Great: Don’t be Ashamed of American Exceptionalism

My latest at The Stir:

President Obama delivered the commencement speech last Saturday at the US Military Academy at West Point, attempting to fill the new graduates with hopey-changey optimism by eluding to a new world order.

I’m sure that most of those military types were scratching their heads.

It’s hard to get into West Point. You have to really, really want to go there, you have to be super-strong and whip smart, and above all, you have to love America and promise to defend it to the death. It’s not exactly a place for pansies, as well suited as a pansy might be elsewhere. Say in a pink tank top on her couch with her laptop clacking out a post on American exceptionalism for The Stir.

Yeah, you heard me. I’m a pansy. At least when stacked against a West Point graduate. But I do love America, and I will fight to the hard drive death for it.

Don’t Get Mad at Djou

Remember Charles Djou, that Republican guy in Hawaii that actually thought he’d have a shot at winning a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives from that deep blue state?

Well he won.

I know! Pretty cool, huh? I know a lot of my uber conservative friends are very excited. I’m excited too! I’m almost as excited as I was when Scott Brown won in Massachusetts. I mean, Republicans just don’t win in states like MA or HI.

Unfortunately, many conservatives were sorely disappointed when it turned out that Brown had some liberal leanings. They felt betrayed. I fear the same thing is going to happen with Djou followers.

To that I have this to say: Given the candidates in a general election, it is better to celebrate the victory of a candidate that will vote with you half of the time than bemoan the victory of someone that will never vote with you.

Congrats to Mr. Djou. The best of luck to you sir, and I hope that you’ll support many conservative caused during your time in Congress.

Arizona Bites Back Over Los Angeles Boycott

My latest at The Stir:

Apparently Los Angeles doesn’t like the immigration law in Arizona. Well, at least Mayor Villaraigosa and the city council don’t like it. Recently they voted 13-1 to boycott Arizona in protest over the state’s Constitutional right to enact laws that are supported by a majority of its citizens.

Um, ok.

Arizona is completely within its rights to enact a law that would enable local law enforcement to do the job that our federal government is slacking on — keeping our borders safe. The immigration law in Arizona is almost a carbon copy of the federal law. Let me sum it up — if you want to live and work in America, please do so legally.

Abortion Violates Civil Rights of Unborn

The right to do what you want with your own body.

This is the call of the pro-abortion crowd. Let the woman choose what to do with her body! It’s her right!

I’d like to make the case that by using the “my body, my choice” line, you’ve just given men the right to rape.

Just follow my logic, ok?

We all have rights. God given rights. In America, we have a government that protects those rights. In protecting each individual’s personal rights, sometimes there are restrictions imposed. For example, I have the right to own property, but not the right to steal it from someone else, because that infringes on that person’s right to the property which they have earned or been given.

Basically, any time you have two individuals, you have to navigate carefully where rights are concerned, and one person’s rights do not supersede another person’s rights.

That’s why it’s not cool to rape, murder, steal, plunder, etc.

There are more people involved than just a woman when an abortion takes place. Mother, father, and baby are all affected, and the choice of the mother infringes upon the father’s right to not have his kid’s life ended prematurely, and of course the baby’s most elemental right, the right to life is taken away.

The rights of the father and the child are completely obliterated by a woman’s right to “choose”. Why does a woman’s right in this arena supersede the rights of two other individuals?

In what other areas does a person have more freedom of choice than another person? Rape? When a man rapes a woman, he takes away her right to choose what to do with her own body. Why is her right to not be raped not sacrificed at his right to sexual satisfaction?

Why is a child’s right to live not more important than the mother’s desire to not be pregnant?

It seems that everyone has rights except for the more helpless population of all: The unborn.

Obama and Calderon Discuss Immigration Concerns

Yesterday President Felipe Calderon of Mexico visited President Obama in the White House. It is unclear whether or not he was required to show papers to gain entry to the United States. Not that it seems to be very difficult to crash state dinners these days. Even Michaele and Tareq Salahi almost put in an appearance.

Before the snazzy dinner sponsored by you and me, the taxpayers, the two heads of state addressed the controversial Arizona immigration law.

President Obama said:

“I want everyone, American and Mexican, to know my administration is taking a very close look at the Arizona law,” he said. “We’re examining any implications, especially for civil rights, because in the United States of America, no law-abiding person, be they an American citizen, a legal immigrant, or a visitor or tourist from Mexico, should ever be subject to suspicion simply because of what they look like.”

And President Calderon invited Americans to come to Mexico, take on a false identity, and take advantage of every public service available, from the education of our children (who of course will be taught by bilingual teachers) to food stamps (so we can have more children on Mexico’s dime). Oh, and of course free health care for everyone.

Ok, not really. But I’m sure that’s what he meant.
